The Kiribati government has made significant strides in implementing the Rawannawi Declaration 2025, with various ministries actively working on its priorities for over two weeks since its inauguration on February 24.

In a live address to the nation, His Excellency President Taneti Mamau outlined the key areas that require immediate attention and improvement to align with the declaration’s theme: “Strengthening of Relations and Good Governance for Sustainable Development.” President Mamau emphasized that achieving this theme necessitates effective leadership and strong relations, which will benefit both the present and future generations of Kiribati.

“The theme requires good relations and good leadership for the benefit of Kiribati today and tomorrow,” said President Mamau.

The Rawannawi Declaration, a strategic government framework, focuses on action plans designed to fulfill the policies of the current administration, as well as the country’s 20-year vision, KV20. The declaration contains 149 policy statements, with a key focus on identifying additional revenue streams to fund large-scale development projects aimed at strengthening Kiribati’s infrastructure.

“The work of government ministries and state-owned enterprises (SOEs) needs to be strengthened to fulfill a unified goal,” President Mamau stated.

The president also addressed the nation’s challenges, urging that they be viewed not as obstacles but as opportunities for growth. He highlighted the importance of nurturing the country's young population with values such as respect, love for their country, and adherence to cultural norms.

“The purpose of the Rawannawi Declaration is to demonstrate that the I-Kiribati people are capable of advancing Kiribati into the future,” President Mamau concluded.
